ANOTHER POINT OF VIEW
The music career of Beppe Di Benedetto 5tet started about ten years ago. Since the first meeting, the objective of the band has been to focus on original pieces, written mainly by the band leader, highlighting the solo and interpretative language of the single components through a knowledgeable attention to contemporary jazz sounds.
The first album by the quintet, See The Sky, produced in 2011 by TRJ Records, has received considerable success nationally and internationally. Beppe Di Benedetto (trombone) and Luca Savazzi (piano) - the two composers of the band - together with Emiliano Vernizzi playing saxophones, Stefano Carrara playing the contrabass and Michele Morari the drums, constitute today the Beppe Di Benedetto 5tet.
The evolution of composition of Beppe Di Benedetto and Luca Savazzi, along with the growth style of the soloists and the quintet, has materialized in the new project Another Point Of View, produced by TRJ Records.
The quintet has been invited to take part in various Festival, Exhibitions and concerts in the Jazz Club including: ParmaJazz Frontiere, Lovere Jazz Festival, Festival Delle Terre Verdiane, Festival Barezzi Live, Calcinato Jazz Festival, Soresina Jazz Festival, Jazzit Festival, Giovani Titani Jazz Festival, Rassegna Nottetempo, Rassegna Bacoli Jazz Club, Riga Jazz Club (Lettonia), Cento Jazz Club, Bergamo jazz Club, Piacenza Jazz Club, Jazzit Club Montefalco, Zerbini Jazz Club ecc.
Another Point Of View defines, already with its title, the musical direction that the quintet wants to propose: Jazz which is solidly rooted in tradition but which is enriched by a European and Mediterranean experience.
Another Point Of View represents the research in music and in everyday life of another perspective, it seeks to break the routine and to open up new yet unmarked paths that wait to be explored in the infinite space that surrounds us.
Another point of view doesn’t aim to separate from the past. On the contrary, it wants to espouse all the elements taught to us by history and the great masters.
The constant research of melody, of open and developing forms, the classical polyphony which penetrates jazz adding colour to the stylistic research, the frequent interplay: these are the recurring elements of this new project.
In these last few years of concerts, studying, rehearsals, chats, listening and influences of different types of music, the sound of the quintet - which yet still remains quite similar to the sound matured in See The Sky - has progressively evolved through other communication paths, those of the sounds currently produced in the world, while still keeping a foothold in the great tradition of Afro-American music.
Since always, Beppe Di Benedetto has been interested in the descriptive music of Vivaldi, Beethoven and in Mahler’s and R. Strauss’s program music. As with the great compositions of the past, in this album the songs conceptually describe thoughts, programs, intentions, objects, situations, moments, states of mind.
SEE THE SKY
One day dad went back home, a strange black suitcase in his hand; and stood up in front of the 12 years old son. Inside the suit case, there was a shiny instrument, smelling new. Such was the curiosity that the boy decided to snatch the secret language of music: it was so moving, it made me so happy.
“See the sky” is the fruit of a beautiful journey, a veritable résumé of my experiences, meetings and emotions through years and years spent playing music and living my life. It's a generous cd, resultance of both enthusiasm and joy in making music; and it's, from time to time, intense, soft, minimal, furious, romantic. The five musicians of the quintet share respect and friendship, and show along the tracks the beauty of many years playing together.
